[edit] Edit War?
Would someone for the love of god stop who ever is doing this? This guy is obviously a stalker. Each time I edit the page back to its orignal form, someone keep posting this nonsense. Would the mods/administrators do something and ban whoever is doing this?
- If it's going to say it's locked, the least they could do is actually lock it.
[edit] No family life?
This page focuses very superficially on Idol's musical career but does not discuss influences or incidents with press and media. It also leaves out a considerable amount of information regarding his personal life, childhood, and family.
Yeah...like who are his parents? Siblings? Pedianut 03:50, 9 February 2007 (UTC)pedianut
[edit] Trivia
I added some trivia but is there anything else anyone can contribute? Crazy Eddy 15:51, 6 May 2006 (UTC)
- What was it that people in the US chanted when Mony Mony was played? Was ti something like "get laid, get fucked?" I'm not sure, as I am a bit too young to remember exactly. youngamerican (talk) 12:39, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
- You're thinking of "Hey everybody get drunk and get fucked", but I'm not sure that's exactly encyclopedic. If it were, I think Tommy James should probably take the credit for it :) Flakeloaf 11:48, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
Here in Canada we yelled out, "hey motherfucker get laid get fucked" - I have only heard rumours about how it started, and Billy not knowing for sure either. NOT with the Tommy James version 207.6.81.139 07:44, 4 March 2007 (UTC)sds
[edit] Citations needed
I cut the following as completely lacking any Wikipedia:Verifiability. Some of it probably doesn't even belong in the article if it can be referenced. Jkelly 23:47, 25 July 2006 (UTC)
- When Idol was performing live at the 2002 Australian National Rugby League grand final, the power went out.
- He has a son, Willem, by a relationship with Perri Lister. Idol has never married.
- He appeared in a recent episode of Viva La Bam where he performed for April Margera on her birthday.
- Idol became a vegetarian because he wanted to look like David Bowie. He is still largely a vegetarian but does eat shellfish.
- Idol's hobbies include shell collecting. His favourite shell is the Pismo Clam (Spisula Solida).
- In the television show "Buffy the Vampire Slayer", the vampire Spike (James Marsters) claims Billy Idol stole his look from him.
- Idol attended Sussex University but dropped out after one year.
The Spike one is fairly well-known. I think it should be included. Garth M 00:37, 19 August 2006 (UTC)
- I agree. So is this removal about needing citation or about relevancy? It's mentioned in the article about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spike_%28Buffyverse%29. --Sumiko 00:00, 25 May 2007 (UTC)
Re: a TV bio factoid mentioned that he created/originated the GENX music movement...he was the first to create & experiment with music using PC's. I think that would be good to add in if someone could verify it. I'm a newbie here and just learning about this stuff...can someone help with this? Pedianut 03:47, 9 February 2007 (UTC)
The article mentions that Idol was part of Siouxsie & the Banshees for a short while; I can't find anything to support this on Siouxsie & the Banshees fan pages around the net, nor on their Wikipedia page. Citation?
He was a member of the Bromley contingent(a group of Sex Pistol fans) that also included Siouxsie Sue(Siouxsie & the Banshees.)
- "The Broads were a religious family, and William joined the St. Mary's cub scouts, becoming a full scout. It has been said that William was kicked out of the scouts for making out with a young girl behind a hot dog stand."
- This all seems very unlikely. The scouts in the UK are only nominatively religious - even in the 60's you wouldn't get chucked out for kissing a girl. In addition, there were no girls in the scouts in the UK until the early 90's and there are few hot dog stands anywhere in the country now, never mind then. Can this be deleted? 78.105.66.106 (talk) 22:37, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

- Sadly, this is just a small part of the fancruft bollocks that presently infests the whole article. You are quite right (for all the reasons you state) - it needs deleting - as does much of the unsourced claptrap therein. Be bold.

[edit] YouTube links
This article is one of thousands on Wikipedia that have a link to YouTube in it. Based on the External links policy, most of these should probably be removed. I'm putting this message here, on this talk page, to request the regular editors take a look at the link and make sure it doesn't violate policy. In short: 1. 99% of the time YouTube should not be used as a source. 2. We must not link to material that violates someones copyright. If you are not sure if the link on this article should be removed or you would like to help spread this message contact us on this page. Thanks, ---J.S (t|c) 04:58, 10 November 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Myspace Link
WP:EL states that there are certain kinds of links that "should" be avoided, among them MySpace links. I believe this may have been intended to keep people from adding their own MySpace pages to Wikipedia as sources. The artist's own MySpage page is another matter entirely, since it is a primary source about the artist and has much in common with, say, billyidol.com. Flakeloaf 22:28, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
- Forget it, the conversation here would suggest that Jimbo has blacklisted the whole domain. This is probably equal parts baby and bathwater but I won't be losing a lot of sleep over it. JzG's right. Flakeloaf 22:34, 30 January 2007 (UTC)
[edit] "is god"
why cant i delete this off the main page...? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 220.238.126.206 (talk) 10:55, 17 February 2007 (UTC).
[edit] Cleanup
I came across this article and gave it a quick pass at cleanup -- added a few citations, reworded a lot of POV, but really only scratched the surface. This article could definitely do with a more dedicated caretaker :) -Jkraybill 15:41, 14 October 2007 (UTC)
