There are TWO Bill Fosters who coached NCAA Division I men's basketball teams, and they are often mistaken for each other. Adding to the confusion is that they coached at several schools in close proximity to each other--Virginia Tech, Duke, Clemson, and Charlotte (which was known as UNC-Charlotte at the time).

The Bill Foster who coached at Virginia Tech also coached at Charlotte, Clemson and Miami (FL). The Bill Foster at Duke also coached at South Carolina and Northwestern. One of them (I don't know which one) also wrote a book titled "Upward Mobility in Coaching".

Separate entries should me made for each "Bill Foster."
