William Prescott Wells (December 7, 1931 – December 25, 2001) was an American football player who was drafted by the Washington Redskins in the fifth round of the 1954 NFL Draft. He was a 6 ft. 2 in. running back from Michigan State University.
He was the Rose Bowl Player Of The Game in the 1954 Rose Bowl. Wells played in seven NFL seasons from 1954-1960. He was a fourth round draft choice of the Washington Redskins in 1954. He later played with the Washington Redskins in 1956 after the Korean war. He joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 1957 and was the team's top rusher. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1958 and the Patriots in 1960. He finished his pro career with 1,384 yards rushing for a 3.8 average.
He later moved to Southern California. He formed a Dixieland band called Billy and his Bachelors. He also acted in a few television shows including Manhunt and Alfred Hitchcock presents.[1]
Billy Wells died in December 2001.[2]
