Billy Downer

Advocate William "Billy" Downer SC, a deputy director of public prosecutions with the South African National Prosecuting Authority.
Billy Downer received his law degree from Stellenbosch University and was awarded a Rhodes Scholarship to study at the University of Oxford. He became a public prosecutor and specialises in fighting corruption cases. The most well publicised of these is his work on State vs Shaik trial. His detailed investigations, crucially the a handwritten encrypted fax in French with 'JZ' and 'SS' as recipients of R500,000 that was sent to Nkobi Holdings, was key in securing the conviction of Schabir Shaik for fraud.
