[edit] Communities
The primary community in the township is Kagawong. Kagawong's harbour is located on Mudge Bay and is home to the Kagawong Lighthouse, which has been in continuous service since 1888. The name Kagawong means "Where mists rise from falling waters", in the Ojibwe language. Kagawong is home to numerous tourist attractions, including a Transportation and Communication Museum, Bridal Veil Falls and St. John the Evangelist Anglican Church.
Located at the head of Mudge Bay, on the North Channel shores of Lake Huron, Kagawong (an Ojibwe word for “Where the Mists Rise from Falling Waters”) has been designated “Ontario’s prettiest village”. Kagawong is the nearest port of call to the Islands of the North Channel, being directly south of Clapperton Island and the Benjamins
The village of Kagawong offers both natural beauty and a variety of businesses. The place “Where the Mists Rise from Falling Waters” is in fact the Bridal Veil Falls, where the Kagawong River flows out of inland Lake Kagawong over a limestone bluff to its mouth beside the Small Craft Harbour. Maybe you’ll see an otter playing around the marina or at the mouth of the river. You are sure to hear and probably see the famous Sand Hill Cranes that summer on Manitoulin. Kagawong is a regular port of call for boaters cruising the famous North Channel of Georgian Bay - famed for the literally thousands of islands, pristine and largely deserted. The Austin H. Hunt marina in downtown Kagawong offers dockage for both transient and seasonal boaters, at competitive rates.
There are three smaller communities, Billings, Bowser's Corner and Pleasant Valley, in the township.
