His name was acknowledged with great respect among the famous wrestlers of the world during the 1950’s. Not because he was a wrestling champion, but because beside being a very good fighter he was a friendly and kindhearted individual. He was a cheerfully character. And he had faith in greater human qualities.

Bill Verna was born in Australia in 1929. He moved to Belgium in 1947 and he adopted the freestyle wrestling as his profession. When he become a pro wrestler, he weighed around 267 pounds, and stood 5 feet and 10 inches in height. He trained for 2 to 3 hrs each morning, and ate a healthy diet. Besides being jolly he was also ready witted. For him Gym was one of the most important thing. He has fought more then 2000 wrestling bouts. While speaking about winning or losing a match Bill used to say that if I can perform well and do my best in the ring and lose a fight then I don’t feel so bad. But when I can’t perform well or do my best in the ring then I really feel unhappy about it.

Bill got married in 1954 while he was living in Belgium. But he wanted to settle down in Singapore with his Singaporean wife. Bill Verna himself was a very handsome young man. And the most perfectly built wrestler of the 50’s. He was a friend of the Empire Champion, Bert Assirati. And personally had great respect for him. But however bill himself was a very good person and a wonderful performer inside the ring.
