William Stemmeyer (May 6, 1865May 3, 1945) born in Cleveland, Ohio was a Pitcher for the Boston Beaneaters (1885-87) and Cleveland Blues (1888).

He led the National League in Strikeouts/9IP (6.17) and Wild Pitches (63) in 1886 and Saves (1) in 1887. His 63 Wild Pitches in 1886 is still the highest single-season total in the history of Major League Baseball.
