Bill Shorthouse (born 27 May 1922 in Bilston, Staffordshire) is an English former professional footballer and coach. He played as a defender, first at centre-half until replaced by Billy Wright, then at full-back, and made 344 appearances in the Football League for Wolverhampton Wanderers, his only professional club.[1] With Wolves he won the FA Cup in 1949[2] and the First Division championship in 1954, and twice finished runner-up in the First Division. He went on to coach at Birmingham City,[3] and he and chief scout Don Dorman acted as caretaker managers at the end of the 1969–70 season while the club sought a replacement after Stan Cullis, Shorthouse's former manager at Wolves, retired.[4]
Shorthouse served in the Second World War and was wounded in the arm during the Normandy landings.[5]
