Willie G. Hobbs (September 18, 1946August 21, 2004) was a collegiate football and National Football League linebacker. Hobbs played college football at Texas A&M University, where he was named two-time All-American linebacker, 1967 Southwest Conference Player of the Year, the Cotton Bowl MVP, and National Defensive Player of the Year. Hobbs' three seasons in the NFL were spent with the Philadelphia Eagles. He then played briefly for the San Antonio Wings of the former World Football League. After his retirement, Hobbs remained in Texas and became involved in Christian ministry, becoming a Baptist minister and traveling the world as a missionary.[citation needed]

On August 21, 2004 in San Antonio, Texas, at the age of 57, Hobbs was riding a motorcycle when he neglected to stop for a red traffic light.[citation needed] He collided in the intersection with a Chevrolet Suburban driven by the aunt and uncle of the popular television and film actress Katie Holmes, and was killed.[citation needed] His funeral was held at the Baptist church at which he was a minister, and his former university, Texas A&M, recognized his death. He was survived by his wife, Kristi.[citation needed]
