[edit] Gas tax campaign
Graham's name recognition was relatively small until spearheading the campaign to "Cap the North Carolina Gas Tax". This was a grassroots movement culminating in a petition signed by 75,000 North Carolinians. The petition influenced Governor Mike Easley to cap the gas tax. This campaign helped establish him as a leading candidate in the Republican Primary for Governor in 2008, according to a poll of likely voters. [2]
