Riverside Markets began in the 1930s as a small credit and delivery grocery store located in Brookville, PA under the owership of Homer W. Reitz.

This supermarket was the first in the United States to install magic eye automatic doors and changed the way customers shopped. Their cash and carry system eventually proved to be a success, resulting in lower prices. As the business grew, they decided to expand the operation. In 1949, the SV Corporation was formed with Paul Reitz as president. Stock was sold to raise money for expansion.

The business continued to grow and in 1962, the SV Corporation merged with Penn Traffic Company, and the DuBois operation became the Riverside Division. During its first year as the merged Penn Traffic Company, two combination units, with a Riverside Market and a Penn Traffic Department Store under one roof, were opened. By the end of 1962, work had begun on the large central distribution center as well as a general office.[1]

The Penn Traffic department store division was sold in 1981. As part of the Penn Traffic Company, the Riverside Division now operates 42 supermarkets under the BiLo name. Penn Traffic is a wholesaler to several contract stores and 20 independently-owned markets under the BiLo/Riverside name. The "BiLo/Riverside" supermarkets trademark is owned by Penn Traffic Co.[2]
