[edit] Arsenal F.C.
Your assertion is false - not only have Arsenal been promoted to the top flight on merit - in 1903-04 - but in the same meeting as Arsenal's promotion in 1919 Chelsea were re-elected to the First Division despite being relegated in 1914-15. There was also Darwen when they were elected in 1890-91 and Sheffield Wednesday in 1891-92, despite other teams finishing higher in the Football Alliance. Qwghlm (talk) 21:58, 23 December 2007 (UTC)
- Chelsea have been relegated and promoted since 1919 thus earning their status by footballing merit. Darwen and Sheffield Wednesday are not currently top flight clubs. The statement is an undeniable fact. Arsenal are the only top flight club who haven't achieved their current position on footballing merit.(--BigTurnip (talk) 01:30, 24 December 2007 (UTC))
