Talk:Big Eight States

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a frequently referenced set of US states by which other states are measured. This usually comes up in the context of forums focusing on government-funded, state-run programs. It is hard to discern whether this is a notable fact or passing trivia. However, the question of how and why "the big eight states" are used as a frame of reference in this limited context remains open, on an anecdotal basis anyway. Given that these happen to be the only states with 10 million or more residents helps provide some rationale to the measure.

Has anyone heard of this measure being used in other contexts?
