Big Town Hero is an Oregon-based sandwich restaurant chain founded as "Campus Hero" in 1981 by Jim Jeter and owned by Hero Systems, Inc. Their slogan is "The Ultimate Sandwich!"
As of 2006, there are almost 30 locations in Oregon but the company has recently expanded to nearby Washington, California, Montana, Nevada, and most recently, Texas.
According to their official website, they are most famous for their bread which is made fresh from scratch every morning in stores. They also strive to get the freshest ingredients from local providers. Their most popular bread, the limited-time-only Southern Fire, is made with Jalepeños, Barbecue Sauce, and Cheddar Cheese. The bread was discontinued in spring of 2007.
Some say that the mural painted on the wall of Big Town Hero locations is inspired by the ideas of Ayn Rand, known for her hero-oriented literature[1].
