"Big Things Poppin' (Do It)" is a song by T.I., and is the first single from his fifth album, T.I. vs. T.I.P.. The song was written by T.I. and produced by Mannie Fresh. This is his third Top 10 solo hit, and fifth overall. The single was released on April 17. The explicit version of the song is called "Big Shit Poppin' (Do It)". The song is a T.I.P song. T.I. explains the song's title:

"Big Things Poppin' is really just me talking to these people who say things and can't back it up. You know how some people say, 'Money talks and bullshit runs a marathon?' I'm saying the equivalent of that."[cite this quote]

It leaked onto the internet on April 14, 2007 on numerous P2P file-sharing sites. An unofficial remix was released that also includes Fabolous, Cassidy, and Swizz Beatz, with a video being released as well[1]. Other remixes include one released with Young Hot Rod. "Big Things Poppin (Do It)" debuted at number thirty-nine on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart on April 26, 2007.

On May 22, the single was released on the iTunes Store and the rest of the album was made available for pre-order.

The single debuted at number thirty on the Billboard Hot 100 on the chart dated June 9, 2007 and has thus far peaked at number one.[2]

The single debuted at number twenty-one in New Zealand and has thus far peaked at number eight. It has charted on downloads alone. It is the first solo chart entry by T.I. in New Zealand. This song was #66 on Rolling Stone's list of the 100 Best Songs of 2007.[3]

The single samples a guitar riff from the song, "Top Gun Anthem," the theme of the movie Top Gun.

"Big Things Poppin' (Do It)" is also used with alternative lyrics as the theme song to an ESPN SportsCenter special known as the "Who's Now?" series, which is being aired throughout the summer of 2007. The song's beat is taken from Khia's Hater Walk.

This song is also featured in the multiplayer online casual rhythm game DANCE! Online.

[edit] Video

The video starts in a tour bus, continuing the split personality theme of the album, with T.I. and T.I.P. engaged in a push-up competition, the first reaching 100 push-ups winning the rights to do T.I.'s show later in the evening, while the loser having to clean their bus. T.I.P., who is lifting a weight between each push-up, mocks T.I. throughout the intro before telling T.I. that he's gonna stop playing with T.I., counting "ninety-eight, ninety-nine... Holla!" T.I.P. then gets up and, after mocking T.I.'s loss in the contest, leaves the bus as "Big Things Poppin'" begins to play.

The video premiered on BET's Access Granted on May 16, 2007. People who made cameos include Mannie Fresh, 8Ball, and the bulk of the Grand Hustle roster (Jason Geter, Young Dro, Big Kuntry King, DJ Drama, Alfamega, and Xtaci). The video was shot in Atlanta on June 5, 2007. The video was directed by Eric White and features T.I.'s alter-ego, T.I.P., the name which he began his career.

The phone T.I used in the video is a Nokia 5300.
