Big Mouth Corner
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Big Mouth Corner (BMC) is a weekly English conversation forum organised by the English Club of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU). The BMC which involved both local students and young native English speakers (who serve as English facilitators) was first started in 2002 following the success of its predecessor, the Chat Point. As of May 2005, over 1000 PolyU students have joined this activity. The BMC in this semester (2007/2008 Sem 1) will start from late October.

[edit] Aims
- to provide a relaxing atmosphere for all PolyU students to practise and improve English
- to raise the awareness of cross-cultural similarities and differences
[edit] Rundown
The BMC generally lasts for two hours, starting from 6:30 pm. The first hour is a chit-chat session in which all the participants can chat on any topic. Then it comes to the refreshments time. The last 40 to 45 minutes is the theme-based activity in which the English facilitators take full control. They usually bring the participants with games and activities which are popular and unique back at their hometowns. English-language-based activity such as introduction to slangs and idioms is a frequent feature in the BMC also. Amongst all the activities held so far, speed dating seems to the most popular one.
[edit] How to join?
Students do not have to sign up to join. They can simply drop in when they feel like to.
