Big Grove Township occupies the 6-mile (9.7 km) square in the southwest corner of Kendall County, Illinois.

It is located at 41.518886 N, -88.551058 W. It has 92.51 square kilometers (35.721 square miles) of land and 18,243 square meters (0.00704 square miles) covered by water. Its population in the 2000 Census was 1,526. It has 558 housing units. It contains Lisbon and Newark.

Big Grove Township was named after the large grove of hardwoods that dominated the prairies in the township when the first settlers arrived.

U.S. Route 52 crosses the township east to west.

The township is governed by an elected Town Board of a Supervisor and four Trustees. The Township also has an elected Assessor, Clerk, and Highway Commissioner.
