Big Bazaar is a chain of department stores in India, currently with 75 outlets. It is owned by the Pantaloon Retail India Ltd, Future Group. It works on the same economy model as Wal-Mart and has considerable success in many Indian cities and small towns. The idea was pioneered by entrepreneur Kishore Biyani, the CEO of Future Group. Currently Big Bazaar stores are located only in India. It is the biggest and the fastest growing chain of department store and aims at being 350 stores by the end of year 2010.

Big Bazaar was struck by a controversy in 2003. Eleven people were arrested after alleged Shiv Sainiks barged into Big Bazaar and went on a rampage spree at Mulund in North Mumbai on Dec 21, 2003.The mob of around 200 people entered the store and broke the window-panes of the Big Bazaar shopping mall according to the police. The Sainiks were protesting against the security guard employed at the shopping mall who had beaten up a 22-year-old man on "charges of shoplifting", leading to his death subsequently.
