[edit] Reference to crime and safety
I have hidden the statement
Crime in this area is high and it is not advisable to walk through the area at night.
I don't dispute the statement which is why I didn't remove it immediately. But it needs to be verified - and there is no shortage of material which would support that statement but for it to be included in an encyclopedia it needs to be referenced. Garrie 03:13, 6 October 2006 (UTC)
- I agree however you would need to discuss the socio-economic nature of Bidwill; the high unemployment; a statistics reference to crime in and around Bidwill; perhaps a reference to the alcohol-fueled riots that have occured there in the past; high alcoholism; the local shops being closed down due to endemic stealing, etc. to really justify the statement. [edit] Draft in the mill
I am working on this article in my sandbox.Garrie 23:49, 4 June 2007 (UTC) The draft is now on the main article page. Thank you to the anon contrib who corrected me that Bidwill Campus of Chifley College goes through to Yr 12 - I thought all the ones other than the Senior Campus finished at Yr 10. That's what happens when you work without references...Garrie 03:11, 9 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] History section
I notice that a few of us have interest in expanding the history section of this article.
I think to be honest the best thing that could be done is to expand the article on Darug people. This follows from comments at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject Australian history#Request for comment, that rather than adding only marginally correct information to a whole slew of suburb articles it is better to briefly mention relevant indigenous people in the article in a pre-settlement section.
In fact there is very little remaining historical evidence of Durug culture in the area now occupied by this suburb. There is a large indigenous group in the population throughout the entire area, but this is probably a mix of peoples given the vast area from which aboriginals were bought together at Blacks Town School, near where the M7 now crosses Richmond Road.Garrie 03:48, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
