Bichelsee

Bichelsee is a village and former municipality in the canton of Thurgau, Switzerland. It takes its name from the nearby lake, Bichelsee.
It was first recorded in year 894 as Pichelense.
The municipality also contained the villages Höfli, Niederhofen am Bichelsee and Itaslen. It had 605 inhabitants in 1870, which increased to 728 in 1900 and 782 in 1910. It decreased to 691 in 1950, but rose again to 696 in 1970 and and 935 in 1990.
In 1996 the municipality was merged with the neighboring municipality Balterswil to form a new and larger municipality Bichelsee-Balterswil.
