[edit] American 2006 Olympic team

Michael "Moose" Votta will be providing full coverage of the U.S. biathlon Olympic team for Stats, LLC. --Anonymous

[edit] How about a 'Top 30' table

Do you think it would be a good idea to add a table with a list of the biathletes for each country, maybe just the top 30 in the world cup rankings, or maybe more comprehensive? --Anonymous

Hmm, perhaps we should add two tables: one 'historic' ('all-time great' biathletes) and one 'contemporary'? Keep in mind, though, that detailed information is easily obtained in the World Ch.ships, Olympic medalists, and World Cup winners articles, so in any case I think the general biathlon article should only have one or two concise tables. --Wernher 18:39, 22 January 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Pictures

This is not an American olympic Page! Pictures of athletes from more than one country would show some internationalism. --Anonymous

The Wikimedia community would be happy if you'd take some pictures of a biathalon and release the photographs under the GFDL or a similar license and upload them to Commons, so they can be used here and in other projects. It just happens that the US biathalon team is pretty much completely made of members of the US military, and these photographs of them were taken by US military personal during the performance of their duties, thus the images are public domain. These images are a matter of using what is available, not of supporting a particular team. I just thought that actual photogrpahs of fairly recent biathalons was better than a stamp of what a biathalon looked like decades ago as an illustration for this article. [edit] Blind Biathlon

If anyone knows anything about, it would be great if they could mention something about biathlon for the blind. All I know is that it exists. --Anonymous

AFAIK, blind biathletes use an audio based aiming system in order to hit (hopefully) the targets---headset sound level increasing in inverse proportion to the aiming point's distance from the chosen target's bull's eye (i.e., the closer to the target, the louder the sound). As in XC skiing, blind biathletes have individual seeing assistants skiing together with them through the ski track. --Wernher 09:11, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] International Pictures

Unless only the USA Olympic team competes in the Biathlon, which is not the case, more pictures of biathletes from a variety of nations and nationalities are required. -Anonymous

Apart from the inherent systemic bias of Wikipedia, there is actually a good reason for all those pictures of US athletes (see 10 m Air Rifle for another example of the same phenomenon). They are here because these images are owned by branches of the US armed forces, which release all their photographs into the public domain. Finding free photographs of non-US biathletes is more difficult, that's all. If you should happen to stumble across one, don't hesitate to add it. Nobody is wanting this article to contain images of US biathletes only. -- Jao (talk) 12:45, 22 January 2008 (UTC)
I have a few pictures of non-US athletes that I can offer, like the one I added to Frode Andresen, but they're not nearly as good nor as clear as the ones here. I was at the 2002 olympics in a good spot to take pictures but with a very low resolution point-and-shoot camera. The U.S. Army pictures must have had professional gear, they look tremendously better. I share the concern of a US athlete bias on this page, but I think the higher quality photos are more important than correcting the bias. But if others disagree I'm happy to contribute my grainy shots like the one on Frode's page. Please check it out and comment here if you like. Or just add Frode's picture here if you'd like. What about some of the photos though already on other pages like Uschi_Disl, Sven_Fischer, and Ricco_Gross? - Owlmonkey (talk) 17:24, 22 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] .22LR is not 5.56mm

google image it, or better yet, wiki it.

[edit] What controversy??

This whole section will be deleted. There is no references, is far to biased, and uses weasel words. Perakhantu 09:00, 28 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Broadcasting too prominent

I have moved the broadcasting discussion to a section of its own. It was too prominent up front, looking more like "names dropping" (by the "main" sponsors). The section before the Contents should summarise the most important facts. 84.144.99.145 (talk) 10:43, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

I agree with the reasoning. It would be nice to have more interesting content in the lead paragraph but just a list of companies is a poor choice. One thing that was lost with the change though was a sense of the countries where the sport is popular. We should consider adding something about that back to the lead paragraph perhaps. Anyone else have an opinion on that? - Owlmonkey (talk) 18:30, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
