[edit] Career
Schmidt began her football career at the age of seven with the club TSV 1880 Gera-Zwötzen. The club changed its name into 1. FC Gera 03 after a merger in 2003. During her whole youth career she was the only girl in the team. She moved to 1. FFC Turbine Potsdam in 2006 and soon became a permanent member of the first team. Schmidt scored eight goals in her first Bundesliga season and won the Fritz Walter medal in bronze as the third best female junior player of the year.
In November 2006 she was surprisingly called up for the German national team’s friendly with Japan. A few month later she debuted in Germany’s under 19 national team. She won the European championship with that team in 2007.
