Bhandari's in maharashtra,India bhandari sirname is also seen in some communities in Maharashtra ( India ). They can be Brahmins, Koli ( fisherman ), The name is ,to my knowledge, comes from the ancisteral profession, i.e. bhandarpal or a store keeper..but it is still confusing.. the brahmins whose sirname is bhandari generally hail from North Maharashtra i.e Dhulia and part of Nashik district MS..their ancisters were never in this profession i.e.store keeper .. brhamins were sanskrit scolars..one late Madhav shastri Bhandari was mahamahopadhyay , the heighst award given by sahankaracharya during those days..they spell the sirname as Bhaandari.some of bhandaris are settled in Nashik and Dhulia district MS..the grand chil and grand-grand children are now in USA,Aerospsce engineer and another an Urosurgeon in Bombay...there are certain fisherman communities in and around Bombay whose cast is Koli ( Fish catcher )...in konkan area of maharashtra some Muslim Communities which bear the sirname Bhandari..
