ACTUALLY, THE BHATTMEVADA BRAHMINS ORIGINATED FROM RAJKOT(GUJARAT, 8 ANCESTORS AGO. BUT WHEN MAHARAJA UDAYSINH MEVAD(FATHER OF MAHARANA PRATAP)[FOUNDER OF UDAIPUR CITY], ESTABLISHED UDAIPUR AS THE CAPITAL, HE INVITED THE GROUP OF BRAHMINS FROM RAJKOT- GUJARAT TO COME AND SETTLE IN HIS REGION AS GURU OR THE TEACHERS TO HIS SUBJECT. HE PATRONED THEM AS RAJGURU AND ALSO MADE THEM RESIDE NEARBY THE PALACE OF UDAIPUR. INFACT, TODAY TOO AN AREA IN UDAIPUR CITY EXIST NAMELY BHATTIYANI CHOHATTA AFTER THE BHATTMEVADAS. THEREAFTER THE BHATTMEVADAS BECAME A PART OF MEWAD AND FLOURISHED AS GURU/KARMAKANDI/ JYOTISHISH. Bhattmewada brahmins are believed to have originated from Mevada, Rajasthan, India. It is believed during the Mughal rule in 1500-1600 A.D a large section of this group were at odds with the Mughal rule which they opposed. Most of them migrated to Northern part of Gujarat (State South of Rajasthan) and settled in Sabarkantha, Banaskantha, Himmatnagar, Ahmedabad, Baroda and Bombay.
A large section of this community is now settled in Ahmedabad and Himmatnagar.
