Bharath Institute of Science and Technology

Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) is a technological college in Chennai, India. It was established as Bharath Engineering College, a technical college in the year 1984. Pertaining to its continued academic excellence since last 25 years, the Ministry of Human Resourse Development, Government of India, has conferrer a full-fledged University status to the institute, under section (3) of UGC Act 1956. Henceforth BIST has become the technical wing, a constituent of the newly founded Bharath University.

Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was established under the aegis of Sri Lakshmi Ammal Education Trust with the aim of imparting higher knowledge in Science and Technology to the aspiring boys and girls so that they can emerge competent scientists, engineers and technologists of repute. The institute has earned over the years an enviable reputation for excellence; thanks to instruction by the highly qualified academics of distinction, staffing the various faculties. The uniquely designed special programmes offered by the Institute have already placed it on par with some of its counterparts, both at home and aboard.

BIST was started in the year 1984, and has since been approved by the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) until it became a university. The Institute is committed to the grand task of providing quality education, which will transform the students into efficient and successful careerists.

The National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), an autonomous institution under University Grants Commission (UGC) accredited Bharath University, Chennai with "B" Grade for 5 years.(75%)

Students who have graduated from BIST are already serving in responsible positions, in India and abroad.
