Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) is an electronics company with about nine factories in India. It is owned by the Indian Government & primarily manufactures advanced electronic products for the Indian Armed Forces.BEL is one of the eight PSUs under Ministry of Defence, Government Of India.
BEL has a turnover of About 5000 Crore Rupees (1us$ = 39 Rupees) in the year 2007-2008. It has a total employee stregth of about 12000 people spread across 9 manufacturing units, and few regianol offices.

BEL is a Public Sector undertaking that was set up in 1954 by the Indian Government to meet Indian defense requirements in the field of Electronics. At one time there were as many as Sixteen thousand employees working in the Bangalore branch.

BEL started in Bangalore in 1954. The initial focus was on valves, Germanium semiconductors and Radars, which evolved over the 1960s and 1970's to include Transmitting Tubes, Silicon Semiconductors, Broadcast equipment, X-Ray Tubes and Defence electronics. The company is divided into 6 SBU(Strategic Business Units) which was involved in production of various defence products.
