Bhakta Kanakadasa is a Kannada movie, depicting the spiritual journey of Kanakadasa, who was a devotee and poet belonging to the Dasa sect.

It stars Dr Rajkumar, Krishnakumari, Uday Kumar in major roles.

Boasting of lilting tunes including the works of Kanakadasa himself, the songs were held in high esteem. Composed by Upendrakumar, the songs turned very popular,

Kanaka, who is the chieftain of a fort wishes to marry a lass, played by Krishnakumari, much to the chagrin of his opponent, Uday Kumar. In a riveting battle scene, Kanaka is on the verge of losing, while Lord Krishna appears and asks him to surrender himself to divine grace. Man of high-temper, Kanaka refuses and continues fighting.

As fate would have it, Kanaka is mortally wounded and healed by Lord Krishna. Surrendering himself to the divinty, Kanaka becomes a dasa[servant] to the Lord. With his unflinching devotion, dedication, he gets the trust of a Guru. Inspired by his Guru to visit the historic Udupi Sri Krishna Temple, Kanaka reaches there, only to be denied entry.

Kanaka is charged of defying law and is punished with when his eyes are about to be lynched, Miracle happens. Lord Krishna's idol turns around, breaks opens the wall and offers Darshana to Kanaka.

Kanaka is accepted as a true Saint and spends his life singing praise of the Lord and composing poems on Lord, including Mohana Tarangini.

Dr Rajkumar was renowned for donning historical roles and devotional roles. He excelled in the role of Historical Devotee Kanakadasa. 4 years later, he acted as Puranadaradasa in the movie Navakoti Narayana.

Bhakta kanakadasa is rated as among the best devotional movie acted by Rajkumar, along with bhakta kumbara, babruvahana and mahishasura mardini.
