BEYOND THE CHOCOLATE WAR by Robert Cormier is a tale of dark deeds continuing at Trinity High School.
Ray Bannister is new to Trinity High School and is spending the boring hours building a guillotine. Obie, Archie Costello's right hand man, is in love. Archie, commander of the secret school organization called the Vigils is disgusted and feels that Obie is moving away from him.
It's the end of the school year. The CHOCOLATE WAR is past history, but not forgotten. What will Archie think up for a final assignment before he graduates? There's Fair Day and Skit Night to work with.
Obie's break up with Laurie Gunderson puts his heart back into the Vigils. Now he has time to think up schemes to help Archie. One of his schemes will involve Ray Bannister and his guillotine. But his plan involving a trick guillotine backfires and Archie hands over the leadership of the Vigils with his ruthlessly cool reputation still intact to Buntiong with Emile Janza as his right hand. The story ends with Archie saying "goodbye" to Obie for the first time. In the end, i realized that Archie wasn't bad at all he was just helping out. Now with Bunting as the Assigner and Emile Janza as his right hand next year the high school will be upside down because these two people believed in violence.
Both novels are for young adults.
