[edit] History
beyerdynamic . Pioneering spirit yesterday + today
The roots of beyerdynamic lie in the “Roaring Twenties” in Berlin. Eugen Beyer recognised the opportunities of a booming communication media – the cinema. The first products were loudspeakers for film palaces in 1924[1]. At the end of the 30's came the first dynamic headphone; the DT 48 and the studio microphone the M 19 - the standard reporting microphone of the “Reichsrundfunkgesellschaft” took its place in history. The war severed these roots. In 1948 beyerdynamic sought new beginnings in Heilbronn. The “Stielhörer” DT 49 became a cult item of "Plattenbars” (Record-Bars) in the 50’s. The "transistophone", the company's first wireless microphone went into production in 1962. The 60’s brought accolade: The queen talks into a beyerdynamic microphone - and even more significantly: The Beatles go on tour with the E-1000 microphone. Musicians, in particular, love the products from Heilbronn. From Elton John, to Abba, to Stevie Wonder – all sing into sound transformers from beyerdynamic.
At the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul all media reporting sites were equipped with headsets from beyerdynamic. The new “Bundestag” in Berlin is fitted with digital microphones. The reporters from the Football World Cup in Germany are on the ball with the DT 297 headset.
For several years now beyerdynamic has used new forms of targeting. “Live Communication” is the keyword, which focuses on the end user. The company promotes music festivals, promising new bands and sporting events with high-end equipment from Heilbronn. The aim: to anchor the new brand positioning in the minds of participants and viewers.
beyerdynamic has a legendary wealth of experience in the arena of audio electronics. Microphones also descend from a related handcrafted tradition. In 2006 beyerdynamic introduced three new products. The new Opus 900 wireless system, Headzone – the first mobile headphone system to allow professional monitoring with virtual 5.1 playback, and Revoluto, a new conference microphone unit without a gooseneck microphone[2]. In 2007 the ribbon microphone M 160 celebrated its 50th birthday. Since 1957 this quality product has been manufactured almost unchanged. The area Pro Audio is the hub for key innovations, which not only inspire professionals on the stage and in recording studios - beyerdynamic makes use of the know-how of in-house technology at last for products for the consumer market as well. Engineers in the development department are working on products for the new boom areas - from high-tech headphones for home cinema owners to upbeat gaming headsets to premium earphones for iPod fans.
