[edit] 2008 Rewrite

I spent about six hours today (and a few on previous days) building this article back up practically from scratch. This is not cut and paste and I know it's not perfect, but it does represent a lot of hard work. I especially worked hard to flesh out both the character history in a way that was brief but inclusive, as well as other relavant information such as awards won and so forth. I think we need a working table of contents (not my expertise) and some skilled editing. I will continue to work on this article, and encourage others to participate. Much thanks. 208.53.116.182 (talk) 02:32, 15 April 2008 (UTC)amyanda2000

[edit] Suggeestions for improvement

Notablitly can be established. A brief summery of character history should be made, list of any awards by the actresses playing her and mention should be made of the split personality storyline and the Lorelie book. I will do this if I get the chance, but there is much to be done with this article. also infobox templates should be implemented. they are available on the wikiproject page for this project.

from wikiproject soap operas:

Plot summaries Keep summaries brief. Plot summaries should be kept brief, only as an overview of the topic. The main purpose of Wikipedia articles is to provide encyclopedic information about a subject, such as its cultural impact, and not to provide a detailed description of story events. The Wikipedia articles can then provide links to other websites which have more detailed storyline information.

"Brief" in this context means a plot summary of approximately 500 words for a typical character article, though more may be appropriate for longrunning characters where there has been a great deal of real-world impact.

Character articles should always be written from a "real world" perspective, and should definitely not consist simply of in-universe plot summary. As such, it should include:

Real-world dates for when the character was created Which actors have played the character, and when Any awards which were won by the actor for playing that character

All soap-related articles, and character articles in particular, must meet Wikipedia's notability guidelines for fiction. Simply stated, "A topic is presumed to be notable if it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject."

Thus, an article should be created about a soap opera character only if the character is notable within the series and and the subject of third-party discussions. Otherwise, the character should simply be listed in a "List of characters" for that particular program.

Character article format Articles should include:

The

Beth Spaulding Bauer
Profile

, with basic information included.

A lead paragraph which indicates the name of the character, when it originated, current or last portrayer and a very brief summary of the other material in the article. A good lead encapsulates the entire article in a couple paragraphs. Notation of all of actors that have played the character, and the dates; this is usually done in the infobox, and often summarized in the lead section. A list the awards that have been won for the role Storyline summary; 500-1000 words maximum Sources and references. Every article must have verifiable sources such as newspaper and magazine articles that talk about the character, or at the minimum, biography links to soap sites such as soapcentral.com. If a character is not notable enough to be mentioned in outside press, then they're not notable enough to have an article on Wikipedia! [edit] Notability and other issues

I believe that notability has been established, (awards, cross over products) so I am removing the tag. More work needs to be done.

Citations are still needed, so I will retain that tag.

Legal name section- I am not sure that this is needed, but I am hesitant to remove it. I'd love to see some more opinions on this. Maybe this could be shortened to a sentence or two and incorporated somewhere else, rather than requiring a whole section.

Background- This character has a lot of background, and I definatly need to work on a "brief" character history that is not plagerized, or two detailed but still includes the major points. Any help would be appreciated.

Links- this article needs some links.

More information. I need to track down (shouldn't be too dificult) the date the character was created and that type of information. I also am going to take a look at one of the examples of a good character page from the wikiproject soap opera page. There's a lot to do on this article and it's gonna take time. again, any help would be more than appreciated. feel free to discuss.

[edit] Article Name

I think this article should be named "Beth Raines" since it is the character's "original" name, and other names can change, but she'll always be Beth Raines. I don't understand WHY this article is titled Beth Spaulding Bauer. The article should use her permanant name, not something that changes every time she get's married or divorced. That way the article doesn't need to be renamed, and moved around. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.53.116.182 (talk) 23:26, 14 April 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edits

The most recent editor sumerized his changes as thus:

(→Character History: lots of cleanup, incl. spelling, punctuation and deleting obvious but unintentional plagiarized passages)

While the spellng and puncuation and so forth did need some clean up, I have issue with the "obvious but unintentional plagerized passages." I took great care NOT to plagerize, using 3 sources, combining information (some timelines left certain gaps, and some were more specific with dates etc) and using my own words. I don't know if I should be insulted or complimented that someone thought that they were plagerized. Short quotes are allowed, and rarely, when I was unable to state it better, I incorporated the quotes AND named the source. I'd like to know if plagerism was just assumed because of my wording... anyway, overall I don't have an objection, but some passages were left right out for no discernable reason other than having assumed "obvious" plagerism where there was none. 208.53.116.182 (talk) 04:12, 19 April 2008 (UTC)amyanda2000
