Betsy Hansen, along with Peggy Satterlee, charged Australian actor Errol Flynn with statutory rape in November 1942. The trial took place in January and February of 1943. A group was organized to support Flynn called the American Boys Club for the Defense of Errol Flynn (ABCDEF); its members included William F. Buckley, Jr.. Flynn was cleared of the crime. The incident served to increase Flynn's reputation as a lady's man, and the term "in like Flynn" came to be synonymous with succeeding in romantic endeavors. [1]
