BET UK launched on Wednesday, February 27 2008 [1] with headquarters in London. BET UK is a mix of content from the main BET channel and locally produced shows.[2][3]

BET International Inc was given a license to broadcast in the UK in May 2007 by Ofcom. In 2006 it was announced that BET would hold its first annual Hip-Hop Awards and as part of the announcement they also stated their would be a "Best UK Artist" category, the winner being Sway [4].

[edit] Pre Launch Technical Testing

As of 20th January 2008 BET UK started testing on digital satellite on the following frequency: Eurobird 1 at 28.5E 11307 V. The test was showing an audio feed of the US channel MSNBC with the caption 'BET Test, Arqiva Washington, DC'

From 29th January 2008 this test became Bars and Tone and was only viewable by a Free To Air Digital Box (Non Sky Box).

On 11th February 2008 the test again became viewable on a Sky box and was showing EPG data for the channel.

On 19th February 2008 BET commenced full video testing

BET launched on the Sky platform on February 27 2008. One day earlier than originally advertised. It began with various BET content, such as 106 & Park, American Gangster and College Hill. The channel is available on Sky channel 209 to all Sky subscribers.[5].
