[edit] History
The History of Best & Co. Founded in 1879 by Albert Best, Best & Co. was an American shopping destination. Generations of parents relied on the brand for its fine quality merchandise and exceptional customer service. Best & Co. flagship stores, located in Manhattan and up and down the east coast, were the beloved places to shop for high quality, everyday clothes as well as dresses, coats and special occasion clothing. It is also where many of New York’s children received their first haircuts. The company thrived for more than a century and remained in business until 1971.
In 1997, Susie Hilfiger purchased an existing children’s boutique in Greenwich, CT., renamed it Best & Co. and has since expanded the Greenwich location to create the elegant flagship store with its rich interior and wonderful collection of children’s clothing and accessories. In 2001, Best & Co. returned to New York City, with a boutique located on the 7th floor of the esteemed Bergdorf Goodman. In addition to its two retail stores and website, Best & Co. hosts trunk shows throughout the United States.
Perfect for both everyday and special occasions, Best & Co. carries on its tradition of providing beautiful, classic children’s clothes inspired by its rich heritage (such as our Fair Isle sweaters and smocked dresses) while also offering new, current styles (such as our peasant blouses and Welly boots) for today’s modern child. - Best and Co's Website[1]
[edit] Trunk Shows
The company is known for its trunk shows that navigated the East Coast. Along with Abercrombie & Fitch, it was one of the dead brands listed in Lisa Birnbach's cheeky The Official Preppy Handbook that has since been revived.
[edit] FAO Schwarz
As of late 2007 Best & Co. has been owned by FAO Schwarz, which plans on expanding.
