Bess is a character from the New York Times best-selling series Guardians of Ga'Hoole by Kathryn Lasky.

This Boreal Owl was first mentioned in the first Guardians of Ga'Hoole book, The Capture. She is Grimble's daughter, and was referred to by him as "Little Bess" since her father had not seen her since she was a hatchling. Grimble also had to admit that Bess was his favorite hatchling compared to the others. Supposedly, after Grimble was imprisoned in the St. Aegolius Academy for Orphaned Owls, Bess and her mother mysteriously disappeared.

After Grimble died, Bess took his body to the Palace of Mists in the Shadow Forest to mourn him and help to send his spirit directly to glaumora, the owl heaven. She now inhabits the Palace of Mists, and has become so wise and clever that she is also called "the Knower". In book 13, The River of Wind, Bess helps Coryn and the Chaw of Chaws get to the fabled "Middle Kingdom."

Bess is known as a rather wise, no-nonsense owl, but plenty nice. Bess supports The Great Ga'Hoole Tree but helps Soren and his friends the most.
