Dear Konkani readers,
I am just writing these few words as a beginning, as sort of a TEST. Do not laugh at me. As I have time and come here, will add a few more. I was born in Goa. My father is a German. His name is Kurt Gustav Adolf Thamm. In Goa everybody called him just Adolf. He got to Goa in the II World War (1943). His and their ship was attacked by British volunteers in the Mormugao harbour, coming with a small barge from India. As of then the German sailors remained in Goa. The war being over, some of those Germans went a long way, infiltrating into India and taking German and other ships here and there in India, went back to their country. Several of those Germans remained in Goa and had their families here. They worked hard and helped the Goans immensely, going about their life there. There are no more of those Germans in Goa. The last (of those) Germans - Fritz Dimsak - who was in Goa died in 1998, amidst his family. He lived in Porvorim. The children of those Germans are spread all around the world. My name is Bernhard Thamm, but (in Goa) I was called Nicla. My family lived/lives in Sinquerim. My father, Adolf Thamm, was a detainee there, in Aguada, because of the war. With him all those Germans were in Aguada. (From here) they used to go about everyhwhere in Goa. If you wish to send me an e-mail, here is the address: bernard.thamm@arcor.de. I live in Bremen, Germany. We are 6 children. One of my sisters (Ana Maria) died here. Two sisters migrated back to Goa and one (of them) lives in our house in Sinquerim. We here in Bremen are: just my brother (Paul) and my sister Isabel; each one in his place and his own family. Well, shall call it quits here, this time - it's late in the night. May God bless you all - Let love prevail, Bernhard
(The translation was sort of - in a jiffy - as I had to do it whilst on the Web. In my present profession am an interpreter/translator for German/French/Portuguese/Spanish/Hindi/Urdu/Konkani and some more)
