There are some discrepancies in my sources in the dates of events in his life. I have tried to find a consensus in the sources, and have used the dates that seem most likely. Here are some discrepancies:

• He arrived in New Spain in 1756, 1762 or 1765, perhaps in the company of his father and uncle.
• He returned to Spain in 1762 or 1772; I think the former is a typo.
• He arrived in Louisiana as governor/interim governor/military governor in 1777 or 1779.
