[edit] Pronunciation
The bit about the pronunciation is more or less correct, but the author's use of standard Latin characters to approximate it is rather clumsy. Can someone skilled with IPA please replace with an appropriate notation? Canonblack 12:18, 23 June 2006 (UTC)
- I don't know much about IPA, but I did take care of some POV issues. The author apparently has a bias against "outsiders" who are coming into the town and pronouncing its name differently. As for the IPA, I don't think the pronunciations should be replaced with it, but rather complemented by it since most people, such as myself, don't have a clue about IPA.-Jeff (talk) 00:57, 12 December 2006 (UTC)
I am NOT an "outsider" and I have rarely heard anyone pronounce it the "native" way. My parents and other relatives are from Berlin, I grew-up there, many of my friends are 3rd or 4th generation, and none of them say "BURL-un." I think I have heard a few "old-timers" promounce it that way ( and maybe some people with accents who barely speak passable English, etc),but no one I know.Objreason 00:57, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
- Interesting, I guess that furthers the case that the edit in question was just pure POV. I hope my edit made the statement more accurate (personally, I've never been to Berlin, with the exception of passing through on my way to Ocean City, so I wouldn't really know).-Jeff (talk) 18:17, 22 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] POV
While there may be a different traditional pronunciation vs. the common pronunciation used by "outsiders", which pronunciation is "correct" is POV.-Jeff (talk) 20:38, 11 December 2006 (UTC)
