Berwyn is a village in northern Alberta, west of Peace River.

Berwyn is the seat of the Municipal District of Peace.

It is the birthplace of genomics expert Marco Marra.

According to the 2006 census, Berwyn has:

  • 1910: Settlers first arrived in the area.
  • 1922: The settlement was officially named "Berwyn", after the village of Berwyn in Denbigshire, Wales.
  • 1936: Berwyn was incorporated as a village.

Berwyn is a rural area with includes such industries as farming, forestry, oil and gas. The largest employer of Berwyn is Central Peace Contracting that are involved with road construction.

[edit] Attractions and Events

Fiesta Days is held the first weekend of August and is the kickoff to the North Peace Stampede. Mainstreet is closed for BBQ, midway rides, games of chance, an antique car show, street dance and fireworks. The North Peace Stampede 3-day event is held at Lac Cardinal (Bear Lake Recreation area and Rodeo Grounds) located 11 km north of Berwyn.

The Berwyn Agricultural Society sponsors an agricultural fair and bench show first weekend in June, which includes grain & craft exhibitions, baking and garden.

Berwyn's Annual Christmas Parade happens in early December, includes Turkey Bingo and Hay Rides. Each year, Berwyn starts off the new year with a New Years Eve Family Celebration, which includes hay rides, skating, and fireworks.
