Bertil Gärtner

Bertil Gärtner, born 13 December 1924, a Swedish Lutheran bishop of Gothenburg 1970-1991, earlier professor of New Testament´s exegesis at Princeton University, United States.
Gärtner became 1969 provost of Gothenburg cathedral and 24th July 1970 bishop of Gothenburg. Like his predecessor Bo Giertz, Gärtner is theologically conservative and High Church and is author of a number of books on the ministry of the Church as well as on New Testament subjects. He has been one of the leaders of opposition to ordination of women in Church of Sweden. He is also episcopal Visitor of Societas Sanctae Birgittae.
