Bernice Brown née Layne (November 19, 1908 – May 9, 2002) was a former First Lady of California. She was the wife of state governor Edmund G. Brown, mother of another (Edmund G. "Jerry" Brown), and the daughter of a San Francisco police captain. She married Pat Brown in 1930. They had four children: a son, Jerry, and three daughters: Kathleen Brown, Barbara Brown Casey, and Cynthia Brown Kelly. Bernice Brown died at the age of 94 in Beverly Hills and is interred at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma.
