Bernhard Flies

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Bernhard Flies (about 1770 in Berlin – ?) was a German amateur composer, best known for music to the lullaby Schlafe, mein Prinzchen, schlaf ein (Sleep, my little prince, fall asleep).

Only little is known about Flies. He was a doctor of medicine and an amateur composer of some piano pieces and songs. The best-known is the romantic music to the lullaby Schlafe, mein Prinzchen (also known as Wiegenlied) from the theatre play "Esther" written by Friedrich Wilhelm Gotter (1746–1797). For a long time, the composition was mistakenly attributed to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (K.350 in the Köchel-Verzeichnis).
