Bernard Shrimsley was editor of The Sun from 1972 to 1975 and went on to edit the News of the World and the Mail on Sunday.
He has written three books: The Candidates, Lion Rampant and, most recently, The Silly Season in 2003.
One of his most famous headlines was "End of the World" after England had been knocked out of the World Cup.
