Bernard MacLaverty

Bernard MacLaverty (born September 14, 1942 in Belfast) is a Northern Irish author, famous for co-writing the screenplay for The Dawning, a film about the Irish War of Independence starring Anthony Hopkins.
MacLaverty was educated at St Malachy's College and Queen's University of Belfast, and has written the novels Cal, Lamb, a heavily metaphorical novel about priesthood, relationships and ultimately love, Grace Notes, which was shortlisted for the 1997 Booker Prize, and The Anatomy School . He has also written four collections of short stories, the most recent of which is Matters of Life and Death.
Cal was adapted for the screen in 1984 starring Helen Mirren and John Lynch. Mark Knopfler composed the film soundtrack. Lamb was adapted for the screen in 1986 starring Liam Neeson in the lead role.
He has lived in Scotland since 1975 and currently resides in Glasgow.
