Berlare is a municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders. The municipality comprises the towns of Berlare proper, Overmere and Uitbergen. On January 1st, 2006 Berlare had a total population of 14,092. The total area is 37.82 km² which gives a population density of 373 inhabitants per km². The current mayor of Berlare is Karel De Gucht, from the Liberal party VLD, also Foreign Affairs minister of Belgium.
