Bergen Subdivision

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Bergen Subdivision is a railroad line owned by New York Central Lines LLC and operated by CSX Transportation in the U.S. state of New Jersey. The line runs from North Bergen north to Bogota[1] along a former New York Central Railroad line. At its south end, the River Subdivision becomes Conrail's North Jersey Shared Assets Area; it becomes the River Subdivision at its north end.

[edit] History

The line was opened by the New Jersey Midland Railroad in the 1870s.[1] Through mergers, leases, and takeovers, it became part of the New York Central Railroad and Conrail. When Conrail was broken up in 1999, the Bergen Subdivision was assigned to CSX.
