[edit] Madonna and BC

I looked around on the Net - apparently M's mother was visiting relatives in her home-town of BC when she gave birth to M. So your edit is supported, since the family was living in southern Michigan at the time. Kdammers 00:19, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

Thanks for the leg work! I grew up in Bay City and knew there was a Madonna connection there, but had never heard of the "Madonna Childhood Home." Not that if there is an actual pilgramage site for Madonna devotees in Bay City it shouldn't be included, it just needs referencing. Benwildeboer 11:21, 25 October 2006 (UTC)
I lived there in the early eighties, when the hotel burned on New year's Eve (oar was it Christmas Eve?). Kdammers 12:52, 26 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] List of projects for use in physics education

Hi -- I've marked List of projects for use in physics education for deletion for the following reason:

"Sorry, but Wikipedia is not instructional"

I just wanted you to know because your user page says you're a teacher (and obviously a good editor trying to help out the site), and I feel a little guilty just having it deleted without comment. I think the best thing to do with this list would be to merge it into another article about physics. As it is, unsubstantial lists don't really stand a chance against deletion on Wikipedia. Would you agree with the merging idea? -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 20:04, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

I would be fine with the merge option (it would probably fit best into the Physics education article. The reason I started the list is to create a place where students and teachers of physics can find information about projects that relate to their subject matter. I may not be the best judge of whether the list is substantial or not, so I defer to your judgement. Thanks. --Benwildeboer 20:10, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
Great! I'd be willing to help you with the merge if you'd like. -- Omicronpersei8 (talk) 20:12, 30 October 2006 (UTC)
I added the individual links of the various physics projects to the See also section of the Physics education article. Until the Physics education article is improved this currently seems the best place for them. --Benwildeboer 20:14, 30 October 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Editing out the paragraph on Janet's Page

"According to sales figures, 20 Y.O. has sold under 500,000 copies in the United States during it's initial 4 weeks. Sales of 20 Y.O. dropped an astounding 80% during it's second week and by the third week, the album sold just under 50,000 copies. Jermaine Dupri, has officially vacated his position as President of Urban Music at Virgin Records following so-called lack of promotion & the underwhelming sales of Janet Jackson's latest project. The reviews of 20 Y.O. have been largely mixed, and the CD continues to slide down most major charts."

Yes, it was my intention to remove the content. The information was biased and incorrect. The album did not drop 80% in the second week. This piece has no sources, especially the part where they state "following so-called lack of promotion & underwhelming sales". Also it should be "and" not "&".

the real percentage drop is mentioned here: www.mtv.com/news/articles/1542847/10112006/evanescence.jhtml

[edit] Edits to Eurasian Woodcock

HI,

You incorrectly identified my post on the Eurasian Woodcock as vandalism. Please leave the edit as is.

Thanks,

John

Sorry for any confusion. I deleted the edits for a few reasons.
  1. "This is particularly popular in the UK, where their size, speed and flight pattern makes them a very challenging shot"-- needs a reference
  2. "A right and left at Woodcock..."-- This is confusing. Clicking on the wikilink for right and left redirects me to the Relative direction article, which doesn't help clarify what the meaning of the statement in game hunting is.
  3. "...affords the shooter membership of a certain desirable club."-- give more details. What is the club? What are the exact requirements? What makes it notable?

Thanks for you editing help! (Don't forget to sign your comments using four tildes (~~~~) --Benwildeboer 20:33, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

Hi.

Re your remarks:

1. This must be referred to in the vast majority of books on shooting game in the UK. Should I provide one at random?

2. Perhaps I need to add some disambiguation to right and left. I'll get on the case.

3. I did mention the name of club before, but the people on the IRC channel for the vandalism program you are using said that it was not allowed as it could be deemed as advertising. What would you suggest?

My comments may well be poorly referenced and confusing, but they certainly aren't vandalism. We are asked to "Be bold in editing ... articles, because the joy of editing is that although it should be aimed for, perfection isn't required."

82.68.226.202 21:36, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

I apologize if I labeled your edits as vandalism, that wasn't my intention. To answer your questions:
  1. Any reference that backs up the information would be great, it can be from an electronic source as well. See Wikipedia:Citing sources for the official policy and help.
  2. That sounds like a great idea. I have no idea what a right and left is when being applied in a hunting frame of reference.
  3. I would either just drop the entire bit if it only refers to one club. If a right and left with Woodcock is difficult or considered prestigious, perhaps explain that. A reference would probably be a good idea for this section too.
Hope this helps some!
--Benwildeboer 21:49, 7 November 2006 (UTC)

"A certain desirable club", as indicated above is not adequate since it can not be verified. it is up to you (82.68.226.202) to show that that your edits can be verified, not me. As a minimum, you need to name the club, if it's a real club, show that it is notable, and give a source. I'll leave the edit for now, to give you a chance to reference and verify, but I don't think it can stay as it is jimfbleak 08:22, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 199.227.247.222

199.227.247.222 has continued to vandalize wiki posts, his most recent being the tally of deaths from wars. This is getting ridiculous.

If the person continuously vandalizes pages even after repeated warnings, then I would request for an Admin Intervention. Check out WP:AIV to determine if this user is worthy of such action. I'm not an administrator, so I am unable to take any more action than you can. --Benwildeboer 14:47, 8 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Ayla Brown

A few days ago, you told us that the page needed to be cleaned up and given a neutral perspective. Is the page now clean, or is there more to be done? andre1010

The article is much better, but work is still left to be done. The biography section is basically copied & pasted from aylabrown.com, which is against Wikipedia guidelines. It would be much better to have independent references for the information in this paragraph anyway. The scoring records must be available online somewhere, it would be great if they could be cited.
The information about her parents and sister needs citations. I did cleanup this section a bit, but references are needed.
The pictures used do not have fair-use tags, and I'd be willing to bet the picture in the infobox is copyrighted, and therefore not able to be used. This needs to be looked into otherwise both will be deleted.
It is looking much better! Keep it up!
--Benwildeboer 18:58, 13 November 2006 (UTC)

I found the article with the scoring records in it, and that is now cited, as is all the other places you pointed out. As for the picture, I actually know the person who has the copyright for it, but since that is impossible to prove, I guess I will just let it stay deleted.

Would you now say it is up to scratch? userandre1010

[edit] Sorry

I do apologise for correcting the article if you consider it "vandalism" but it was an honest correction, that article makes absolutely no sense whatsoever, i'm not sure how much you know about Turkey or Kurdistan but let me put it like this, its like finding an article declaring that say "yorkshiremen" are a distinct ethnic group from the english or bavarians from the germans etc etc, in the wider scheme of things it does'nt mean much, but i am Zaza and i'm sick and tired of this Turkish state propoganda being defended blindly on wikipedia.

regards.

Your edit is considered vandalism becuase of its attacking nature, not necessarily because it is lacking factual basis. If you have a serious complaint, then you definitely should bring it up on the talk page. Just be sure to do so in a more respectful manner. --benwildeboer(talk - contribs) 20:38, 15 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Vandal fight

Hello and thank you for your help in fighting vandalism. However, I'd like to report that there seems to be some problem with your warnings, like this one here (your message goes way overboard). Perhaps you could use the test templates instead. Also, I must recommend that you do not leave a warning if you intend to report the vandal to WP:AIV. Most vandals aren't to be blocked if they have not transgressed their last warning, so by placing warnings at the same time as you report them to AIV may result in no block. Regards.--Húsönd 19:49, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

Oops...I was under the impression that the non-admin fwarn template was what I should put on the user talk page if the user has vandalised a page after the final warning and I've reported them to AIV. I have been using test templates otherwise.
Thanks for the update, benwildeboer D(talk - contribs) 19:54, 17 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Hi

I just noticed that you moved an image I uploaded (Image:Viramontes.jpg) down the page from where it was. Normally in biographical articles, we place an image of the subject in the upper right corner. I'm not sure if this is a rule or just a convention. I was just wondering if there was any particular reason to move it?--Rockero 07:17, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

Sorry, I should've been more specific in my edit summary. The older version (here) has a large white space after the opening paragraph because of the picture placement. I moved the image down in the article to elimate the large white space between the first heading and the start of the text after the heading (see here). I am admittedly not up to date on image placement guidelines, so if you know that the previous placement was more correct, I have no problem with you changing it back. Upon reading your message, I looked for image placement guidelines for biographies, but was unable to find them. Could you tell me where I could find them for my future reference? Thanks! --benwildeboer D(talk - contribs) 12:29, 20 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Thank you

hi, I noticed your edit to my page on the band "malayne". I am attempting to elaborate on the article on the band "underoath" (the billboard top 10 rock band). I have more information about bands that have have been spawned by the bands ex and current members (malayne is one of them). This is great information to hundreds of thousands of teens, and hence I thought it important. I am new here so I am still learning. How do I make this page warrant importance to keep it from being deleted?

[edit] Ayla Brown2

Thanks to your continued suggestions, we cleaned it up even further, and I was even able to find a specific link for one of the records. Would you now say it is satisfactory enough for the tags to be removed? userandre1010

[edit] bio vs nonsense

Hey there. A page you recently tagged About Me! with db-nonsense I've changed to db-bio. It's a bio page about the author himself, not a nonsense page just because it's in arabic. Cheers. •Elomis• 21:31, 7 December 2006 (UTC)

What article are you referring to? I'm not positive which you're referring to. Thanks, benwildeboer D(talk - contribs) 00:19, 8 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] The Red Paintings

As someone who doesn't use wikipedia that much I have found it very difficult to navigate the site. The reason why TheRedPaintings.gif keeps disappearing from their page is because I am the photographer who took the photo, the page breaches copyright by 1. not asking my permission and 2. not crediting me. I could not find a link to advise wikipedia of this breach, so the only way I could remedy this was to keep removing the image. I would like the image removed once and for all unless I am credited in full and permission is sought for the use of the image.
