[edit] Personal recollections

As a child I read his collection of Biafran war telexes. These telexes were nearly all requests, pleas and demands to the Lagos HQ for more ammunition. His military strategy appeared to be an amazing expenditure of ammunition. While telexes are not the complete story, they were intended to be used as the basis for a book on his life, and yet they showed little sign of any planning or strategy - just the reliance of his troops to progress forward. His self-proclaimed reputation as a warrior appears to be based more on luck, and his troops' bravery, than on anything else. This may also explain why, after his original marine landing and successes, he was later removed from command having failed to adequately exploit his war front.
