[edit] Request
I respectfully ask that everyone stop communicating on this page for at least a fortnight, calm down, and put things in perspective. Combatants (and that's what they've become) sully themselves to no benefit and nothing positive came come of this behaviour.
By stepping back for a period of time everyone can show good faith. I challenge everyone at the end of the cooling of period to show continuing good faith by being respectful of others. Disagreement is useful but fighting isn't.Cecelia Hensley 17:03, 5 September 2006 (UTC)— Cecelia Hensley (talk • contribs) has made few or no other edits outside this topic. [edit] Suspected sock puppets
This has been going on since the end of June. I have launched a discussion of the sock puppet allegations at Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets. The discussion will continue for 10 days. Will all interested parties please contribute? Nunquam Dormio 09:54, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
- An administrator has blocked all four disputed accounts. Nunquam Dormio 20:31, 7 September 2006 (UTC)
See Wikipedia:Suspected sock puppets/CRANdieter for details. Nunquam Dormio 09:20, 17 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Restoration of August 31 version
Material of interest was missing in subsequent versions as a result of actions of the above disputed accounts, which are now blocked. Given the suspect nature of content removal during that period, I am restoring a version with maximum non-derogatory information content. 71.160.248.79 01:47, 7 December 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Notability
In reference to the 16:45, 2 January 2008 edit, I am not Ben Best, and "The Cryonics Society" website has no connection with me or Ben Best. The organization is independent of cryonics service organizations, including the one that Best heads, and is run by someone named David Pascal. Therefore the characterization of Ben Best as "one of the most knowledgable activists in the cryonics field" is a legitimate third party characterization of his status. "Activist" is actually an understatement because Best has been deeply involved in shaping the field, not just advocating it.
The bottom line is that cryonics is a notable field, and Ben Best is a big fish in that small pond. Cryobiologist (talk) 18:20, 2 January 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Notability versus Harassment -- to the person behind the IP address family 90.186/187.*.*
In Wikipedia, tagging of pages without a willingness to discuss the issues on the TALK page is known as "drive-by" tagging. The adding of notability tags to the Ben Best page (initially also to the Robert Ettinger page) by special purpose, geographically related IP addresses (which have no other edits than these) has much to do with harassment and not much to do with notability.
It is not difficult for me to figure-out what prompted this harassment by looking at the Hormesis page history. Four edits were made in October by a member of this IP address family:
Then on December 30 I added a comment with reference, which prompted some revisions, which described my referenced analysis as "unlikely", by 90.186.175.95 . In response to this I edited out the "although rather unlikely" phrase, which I believe is personal comment inappropriate to Wikipedia and made the editing comment "leave out your POV". This was followed with revisions by IP address 90.187.117.213 . Between the time of my "leave out your POV" edit and these last revisions the notability tags campaign was begun by 90.186.52.40 .
I apologize for abrupt rudeness of my "leave out your POV", which I admit was an expression of my sense of irritation rather than proper encyclopedic objectivity. You should note, however, that I did not pursue the matter further on the Hormesis page with any further revisions. I do not want to engage in "revert wars". I certainly do not want to see this campaign of harassment continue and I ask you discontinue your campaign. I have a policy of not editing the Ben Best page myself, but fortunately there are others who watch that page for vandalism (thanks especially to Cryobiologist). I would rather not try to get the vandal squad involved. Please stop this harassment. Again, I do apologize for the abupt rudeness of my edit to the Hormesis page. --Ben Best (talk) 09:50, 5 January 2008 (UTC)
