Benson Mhlongo (born November 9, 1980 in Alexandra, Gauteng) is a South African football (soccer) defensive midfielder and defender for Mamelodi Sundowns in the Premier Soccer League and South Africa.
Mhlongo is nominally a midfielder but he has made central defence, where he enjoys a good understanding with captain Michael Manzini, his home in the past two seasons. Tall and strong in the tackle, Mhlongo is an imposing physical presence in defence although his lack of pace and occasional lapses in concentration can undermine his usually assured play. He is also a goal scoring threat from set pieces.
