Benny Herzog

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Benny Herzog is an fictional character created by noted military/action writer Tom Clancy. Herzog is mentioned only in Clancy's first published work of fiction, The Hunt for Red October, during a brief scene in which he is mentioned (by fictional Director of Central Intelligence "Judge" Arthur Moore) as serving as the director of the Mossad, Israel's principal intelligence and internal security agency. Herzog does not physically appear in the scene, and in all succeeding works in the Ryanverse the only senior Mossad official appearing is Abraham ("Avi") ben Jakob, a courageous Israeli soldier-turned-intelligence officer. Since Jakob holds the rank of deputy director, it is possible that Herzog remained in power as director for some years. However, by the time of events depicted in the novel Executive Orders, Jakob has advanced to the position of director, meaning that Herzog had retired or otherwise disappeared.
